The Sandbox metaverse is still in development, at the alpha stage. It has been ongoing since the 2021 and takes place in the form of special Alpha Seasons. For participating in them, users receive rewards in the form of NFTs and the SAND tokens.
On August 24, 2022, a new, third Alpha Season began. It will be available to users for 10 weeks, during which you can explore over 90 locations and complete hundreds of quests. The Sandbox developers have made the new season the largest and longest among all. In this article, we talk about the content and prizes of The Sandbox Alpha Season 3.
Opening of The Sandbox Alpha Season 3
To participate in the third season of The Sandbox Alpha, users need to register an account on the official website via email and a crypto wallet. And to receive prizes in the form of SAND tokens, you will also need to verify your account.
Every day since the start of the season, users will be receiving access to one or two The Sandbox locations. For each of them, the developers have prepared unique quests and various content. A total of 92 locations will be available in the third season:
- 27 locations by The Sandbox’s partners, including: Snoop Dogg, Steve Aoki, The Walking Dead, Deadmau5, Sueco, Warner Music Group, Rabbids Ubisoft, BAYC, World of Women, The Smurfs, Metapride, Care Bears and Atari;
- 17 locations by The Sandbox developers;
- 20 locations supported by The Sandbox Game Maker Fund;
- 12 locations by independent creators (UGC);
- 16 locations by the Game Jams studio.

Rewards in The Sandbox Alpha Season 3
For exploring locations, users receive Ethos Points (EP) — an analogue of experience points in other videogames. They are needed to level up. At each location you can get a limited amount of EP. The more difficult the quest, the more EP you get for its completion.
In total, 1022 EPs and 5 levels can be obtained in the third season. For each level, the player obtains Raffle Tickets, the number of which increases along with progress. Each Raffle ticket gives the owner a chance to win an Alpha Pass. The more Raffle Tickets you collect, the more chances you have to win an Alpha Pass.
Every season, The Sandbox developers raffle Alpha Passes among active users. They are NFTs that you can buy and sell on OpenSea. Alpha Passes from Season 2 were sold in the marketplace for about $3,000.
A total of 10,000 Alpha Pass will be raffled off during Season 3. It gives users access to additional rewards in the form of SAND. These are native tokens of The Sandbox metaverse.
In the third season of The Sandbox Alpha, the developers added a new guaranteed reward system for supporting the project. Rewards will go to owners of NFT lands, avatars, and other NFTs from The Sandbox’s collections. Their owners will receive guaranteed SAND tokens for completing quests. And they won’t need to buy an Alpha Pass for this.
1.5 million SANDs will be raffled among the top users at the end of the season. To get on the leaderboard of The Sandbox, you must complete all the quests on the map. The one who takes first place in the season will receive 30,000 SANDs — about $35,000. The first 500 users in the ranking will also receive additional rewards.
Also, Raffle Tickets, Alpha Passes and NFTs can be obtained for completing special challenges at locations. You can find a list of them in the Events section. They have a time limit on their access, so they eventually close and can no longer be completed. The developers have prepared challenges both for The Sandbox itself and for The Sandbox’s social networks. Special challenges for subscribers will appear in official The Sandbox accounts throughout the season.
Season 3 Welcome Location
On the first day of Season 3, the first welcome location opened up for users. In it, the developers have added a lot of thematic zones with all the projects that will participate in this season. The location turned out to be very large-scale, so the developers created introductory quests in it.
Each project has a zone made in a recognizable style and differs from the others. The developers have created a lot of large-scale detailed 3D objects at the location. Many of them need to be climbed first to complete quests.
Each zone has its quests with which you can learn something new about the project. They are highlighted above non-player characters (NPCs) with exclamation marks.
Quests vary in difficulty. In some, you just need to find an NPC and talk to him. And over others, you need to think and find a secret passage or solve a cipher.
In total, you can get 17 EPs at the welcome location. But not all of them are available right away. On opening day, only 15 EPs were available. The rest will be available during the season, along with the rest of the locations.
In addition to quests, you can find a lot of NFTs from various project’s collections at the location. Some of them are made as 3D models. Each NFT can be approached and read about.
In the third season of The Sandbox, the developers and their partners have prepared 92 unique locations. Each of them is made in the style of one of the projects of the season. At all locations, players are completing new quests and earning game experience.
For completing quests, users will receive rewards in the form of Raffle Tickets, and the best ones will get into the leaderboard. Among them, 1.5 million SANDs will be raffled off at the end of the season.
To introduce users to the new season, the developers have added a welcome location. It contains all the projects and their NFTs that will meet throughout the season.
