How was the First Ever DeSoc and SBTs Hackathon In The Metaverse | BeFuture Case

The Web3Souls hackathon was held from November 28 to December 5 by BeFuture Studio. During this time, the teams had to create their projects in the DeSoc field and compete for a $10,000 prize pool which was made possible thanks to our sponsors: Social Discovery Ventures, Kikimora Labs and Horadrim Capital.

The participants could also get hands-on experience with the Decentralized Society concept (DeSoc). In this article we will talk about the hackathon and its results in more detail.

About The Web3Souls Hackathon

This is an online hackathon dedicated to creating DeSoc projects, which took place in the metaverse. In total, more than 200 people participated in the hackathon, who formed 35 teams. 8 teams from them made it to the final and 4 teams shared the prize pool.

The hackathon program included:

  • lectures, meetups and public talks from the WEB 3.0 experts;
  • guided tours across metaverse projects;
  • contests and prizes;
  • prizes and after-party in the Metaverse.

What was our goal. The goal of the event was to gather projects, companies, investors, experts and developers in one place.

Implementation. Before and during the hackathon, there were lectures from invited experts. And some of the events took place in the metaverse projects.

The Web3Souls hackathon took place in two metaverses: AltspaceVR and Spatial. The hackathon program started from a panel discussion dedicated to DeSoc as a new Development Stage of Web3.0.

Panel Discussion: DeSoc As A New Development Stage Of Web3.0

The panel discussion took place on November 25th in the AltspaceVR metaverse. The participants could get to know each other and the hackathon experts at the event. And the experts shared their opinion and vision on the concepts of DeSoc, SBT and Web3.0.

On November 28, we hosted the opening ceremony of the Web3Souls hackathon in the Spatial metaverse. We introduced the participants to experts and jury members who actively shared their tips and life hacks for passing the hackathon.

The day after the ceremony, all participants received a participant’s memo. There were specified the timing of the hackathon and the requirements for submitting applications.

After 4 days, all teams had to send their project to the jury. During development, they could sign up for a consultation with hackathon experts. Each of them had an expertise indicated so that the teams could turn to the expert who could help with a particular issue.

The next day, the jury determined the list of finalist teams. In total, more than 200 people took part in the hackathon, who formed 35 teams. Of these, 8 teams reached the final, and 4 teams shared the prize fund.

So, 8 teams that reached the final continued to work on projects and presented them to the jury the next day. Each team had only 3 minutes to pitch the project, after which the experts asked the team their questions.

After a couple of hours, all teams and specialists moved to a virtual yacht in the spatial metaverse. And it was the perfect place to announce the winners.

It was a 20-minute after-party, during which the participants and experts were free to chat and dance on the upper deck of the yacht.

We also held lectures and meetups with the WEB 3.0 experts. You can watch some of them on the Web3Souls YouTube channel. And after each lecture, we made posts with the main theses for those participants who were unable to attend them.

We also conducted guided tours to the Metaverse throughout the hackathon.

The results. More than 200 people participated in the hackathon, who formed 35 teams. Of these, 8 teams reached the final, and 4 teams shared the prize fund.

1st place: the Cryptans team with RunTheWeb. It’s a protocol that offers delivery services for DAOs and individuals. These services are executed by the Runners. Anyone can create a mission for Runners and they will complete it for free but in exchange for reputation in SBTs.

2nd place: the Soul Bound team with doVoucher. It’s a service for gasless distribution of SBTs and ERC721 tokens on the Polygon Mainnet. The App creates a voucher in the form of QR code. And users then can claim this voucher. It can be used for issuing offchain NFT collections and for giving private access for Discord channels and Telegram chats.

And 3rd place was taken by 2 teams at once: the DAOers team and the oooo’tors team. They received $1,000 each.

The DAOers team with PSPRT.ID — a platform which verifies that the wallet owner has passed a captcha by minting SBT token. And then everyone will be able to check that the wallet was verified.

The oooo’tors team with Securex — a security audit oracle which makes a parallel audit and then issues SBTs with smart contracts verification. Use cases include allocating lots of addresses belonging to the same structure, as well as routing and verifying open source projects.
